Young Qatari runner Owaab Barrow Othman expressed his full satisfaction with his showing in the 100m at the opening of the World Athletics Championships on Friday, after finishing third in his heat in the preliminary round to qualify for the next round, clocking 10.64 seconds.

Owaab said in comments after the race that he had been looking forward to this competition, which is a dream for any athlete and means a great deal to him.

He added: “My goal is to fly Qatar’s flag at major events. I’ve had a number of appearances recently and I’m doubling my efforts to reach a satisfactory level in the next stage”.

Owaab Barrow, a graduate of the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence, won gold in the 110m hurdles at the Youth Olympic Games held in Argentina in October 2018.

The Qatari runner affirmed that the organisation on the first day of the World Championships was ideal and preparations were at the highest level, with the Qatar federation providing every means of success for the players through the recent training camp held at the Torch Hotel and the competitions everyone had taken part in.

Owaab continued: “I qualified for the second round in pursuit of a good position, and it was a good showing for me”.
