The French school in Doha, “Lycee Francais de Doha Bonaparte”, hosted a visit from a number of French athletics stars taking part in the Doha 2014 meeting, the opening round of the Diamond League, hosted by Qatar SC on Friday.
More than 200 students from the school welcomed high jump star Mickael Hanany and hurdling brothers Pascal and Thomas Martinot-Lagarde, and enjoyed talking with the French athletics stars, getting their autographs and taking some souvenir photos with them.
Adding to the excitement, Hanany decided to compete against an 18-year-old student, Xavier Van Boelvorde, the school’s high jump champion, who has a personal best of 2.01m. Both Hanany and Van Boelvorde succeeded in clearing a height of 1.82m, though it was of course much easier for the French athletics star.
Pascal and Thomas organised a 20-metre hurdles race and also tested the students’ knowledge of athletics by asking them a number of questions, and of course did not forget to invite everyone to attend the Doha 2014 meeting on Friday 9 May at Qatar SC.
