Talal Mansour, Qatari athletics’ first golden arrow, congratulated Major General Dahlan Al Hamad on his victory in the IAAF vice-presidential elections, saying Al Hamad’s win was only natural, even though some of the other candidates had wanted otherwise, but that Qatari thinking and the Qatari character continue to find acceptance anywhere in the world, and that Major General Dahlan Al Hamad is a model of an athlete who loves to serve his country and does not hesitate to compete with rival candidates on programmes of work and development.
Talal Mansour, one of the key figures in Al Hamad’s team, affirmed that the IAAF elections had involved a great many complex matters, but that the ability to persuade was present within the team, most of whom are athletes from within the sport, and wished Major General Al Hamad success in his new duties, especially as he now holds the largest number of votes in the direct elections for the post of vice-president.
