After an injury lasting more than three years that had reluctantly kept him away from the track, Qatari runner Saif Saeed Shaheen made a powerful return, taking first place in the 3000m indoor event in Germany, in the city of Karlsruhe, organised by BW-Bank on 31 January 2010. Shaheen clocked a time of 7:43.44, a mark that put him at the top of the world indoor rankings for the event, being the best mark recorded in indoor competition this season, ahead of the Kenyan champions Kalimo Joseph, who came second in 7:49.08, and Shadrack Korir, who came third in 7:49.13. Fourth place went to the American Vali Ryan, with 13 runners taking part in the event. This appearance comes as preparation for his participation in the World Indoor Championships, to be organised by Doha from 12-14 March 2010, and we hope Saif achieves the results expected of him at this championship, being the world champion and world record holder in the 3000m steeplechase.
