Ruqaya Al Ghasra, board member of the Asian Athletics Association, praised the technical and organisational standard of the championships, saying this was not surprising for Qatar, which has a history of successfully organising sporting championships and is now achieving major technical success in the current edition. The former Bahraini champion expressed her satisfaction with the results of Bahrain’s team at the championships, saying Bahrain has a programme to prepare its male and female champions in the coming period, which is why participation was limited to a certain group of athletes, especially since the goal now is to reach the best possible level at the upcoming World Championships in America and then the Olympic Games in Brazil.
Al Ghasra confirmed that she had previously won two gold medals on this very track and at the same championships, in its second edition in 2008, and that a new generation is now taking part to carry forward Bahrain’s ambitions at both continental and international level.
