Our national junior athletics team’s delegation departs tomorrow, Tuesday, for Tunisia to compete at the seventh edition of the Arab Youth Athletics Championships, to be held on the track and field at Rades Stadium with more than 350 athletes from 14 countries taking part, from July 4 to 7.
The delegation is headed by Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, secretary general of the federation, and includes 13 athletes.
The list of participating countries includes Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, Qatar, Algeria, Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Morocco, Libya and the UAE, which will make competition fierce across the various disciplines, especially the sprints, the middle distances and the field events.
The Tunisian Athletics Federation will hold a press conference tomorrow, Tuesday, to shed light on the championships from various organisational and sporting angles, to be followed by the technical meeting.
Our national team’s athletes will join the administrative delegation, which also includes Khalifa Abdulmalik, director of the national teams, and the Golden Arrow Talal Mansour, assistant secretary general of the federation, with the athletes having been in Slovenia and Britain for a preparatory training camp for some time, in order to reach their best readiness before the competition begins.
A number of our promising and outstanding athletes will take part in this edition, foremost among them Fahad Al Abdullah, bronze medallist at the Asian Youth Championships held in Hong Kong last March in the 400m hurdles, in addition to Ammar Abdullah in the same event, a new junior athlete.
Also taking part are Hamad Khalifa in the 110m hurdles, Hamza Al Susi in the shot put, Mohammed Nooh in the high jump, Abdullah Tariq in the hammer throw, and Aman Bashir in the long jump and triple jump, in addition to the 4x100m relay team.
The championships serve as good preparation for the West Asian Youth Championships, to be held in the Lebanese capital Beirut in August.
