Qatari athletics’ excellence was not limited to shining under Qatar’s own name – the IAAF Continental Cup in Morocco last September was also an occasion for Qatar’s champions to defend the colours of the Asian continent. The excellence shown by Qatar’s champions across various events, and the fine marks they produced, gave them the chance to represent Asia against champions from the other continents, helping the Asian continent shine for the first time in the event by achieving outstanding results through Qatari champions who defended Asia’s ambitions and represented it well – Femi Ogunode in the sprints, Abubaker Ali Kamal in the 3000m steeplechase, and Mutaz Barshim in the high jump
