Press coverage behind his gold … Briton Mo Farah takes on Kenya’s stars and claims gold

British distance legend Mo Farah returned to form and claimed the first track gold of the 15th World Championships, winning the 10,000m after getting the better of the Kenyans at more than one point in a thrilling race. Farah overcame the Kenyans despite attempts to impede him in the race’s final lap, but he held his composure and did not fall, surging forward with greater strength and determination to claim the championships’ gold, and he succeeded, leaving the Kenyans with regret. After the race, the reason for Farah’s determination to win became clear – a response to the Kenyan press, which had played down his chances and, through its athletes, predicted his defeat, saying Kenya’s dominance, which Farah wanted to end, would not happen. Farah answered the Kenyans in practice on the track and secured gold for Britain
