Our world-class coach Jama Aden: Haroun’s achievement makes me happy and confirms his success

World-class coach Jama Aden praised the outstanding performance and fighting spirit of promising runner Abdalelah Haroun, describing him as a world icon of the 400 m, stressing that Haroun is a fierce fighter with extraordinary determination, which we witnessed in the thrilling final: although he fell behind on the first bend and his rivals opened up a gap of several metres, he fought hard to close it and did so in the final metres – had the race gone on a few more metres he would have won it. Coach Jama then turned to his disappointment with runner Musaab Abdulrahman, the standout favourite for the 800 m, who nonetheless erred in his race tactics and gave the opportunity to American runner Boris Berian, who held the lead and surged forward at lightning pace; Musaab should have taken the initiative with a fast pace and not given his rivals the chance, considering it the opportunity of a lifetime that Musaab wasted, given that he had been at the peak of readiness and in the best physical and mental shape to run the race
