Our world junior and youth hammer throw champion Ashraf Al Saifi achieved a major feat, deservedly reaching the hammer final after finishing fifth overall and securing his place in today’s final in China. Al Saifi recorded 76.51m, giving himself a chance to compete for all three medals – gold, silver and bronze – noting that he has thrown much further than this and is capable of achieving it in any of his official attempts. Al Saifi is now within touching distance of writing his name into the record books, and he has not yet even passed junior age. He reached the final alongside hammer giants, chief among them Poland’s Pawel Fajdek, who threw 78.38m to take first place overall ahead of today’s final.
Al Saifi, competing at the senior World Championships for the first time and holder of the youth-category world record, is the youngest competitor in the hammer throw event
