Our talented national team champion Mohanad Khamis, winner of gold in the 2000m steeplechase, expressed his great happiness after his medal triumph, describing the win as a major achievement, especially since this was his first appearance at the Arab Championships. He said: “Thank God for this wonderful victory, and I dedicate this medal first to His Highness the Amir of the country, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, and the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, to my mother and my family, and to all the officials of the athletics federation, foremost among them HE Major General Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, president of the federation, and all the members too.”
He added: “The race wasn’t easy at all – although it started calmly, I managed in the end to open up a gap on the main contenders and secure the title with a precious medal. I see this championship as good preparation for the World Championships, and thank God my current time is 5:45; God willing, I’ll be able to win a medal in Colombia and raise Qatar’s name high”
