Souq Waqif, one of the most important heritage landmarks in the heart of the Qatari capital, Doha, with its old shops offering a wide range of traditional goods, from clothes and food to jewellery, perfumes and souvenirs, and even pets, in addition to restaurants and cafes catering to different tastes, as well as shisha.
The Diamond League 2014 therefore chose this historic location for a special photo shoot with Qatari athletics star Mutaz Essa Barshim, the reigning world champion and Olympic bronze medallist in the high jump.
The Qatari champion looked confident just days ahead of the Diamond League meeting on 9 May at Qatar SC, competing against the world’s leading high jump stars, voicing his belief that the world record would be broken soon. Speaking about his goals for the coming period, Mutaz said “God willing, I will compete in the Rome meeting, as well as some meetings in Poland, I’m looking forward eagerly to more appearances and competing strongly this season, since competition will be especially fierce in the high jump, and there are many rivals capable of achieving good marks”
