Our gold champion Mutaz Barshim sets new indoor mark at Slovakia meeting

Our world and gold champion Mutaz Essa Barshim took first place at the Slovakia indoor championship, setting a new Asian indoor record with a clearance of 2.40m, the best mark recorded at the start of the new season, even though Mutaz’s own personal best of 2.43m was set outdoors, at the Diamond League meeting in Brussels. Khalifa Abdulmalik, national teams director and executive director of the Athletics Federation, said the result was positive and a sign of a good start to the long season, especially since the competition included a fair number of world champions, some of whom set new personal bests. He confirmed that Mutaz’s previous Asian indoor record had been 2.38m, and stressed that our champion was constantly seeking the best marks in his pursuit of achievements worthy of Qatari athletics. He also confirmed that our young champion Muammar Barshim also took part in the championship and cleared 2.20m

It is well known that our world champion is constantly working to develop himself and reach his best marks, especially given his ongoing rivalry with Ukraine’s Bohdan Bondarenko. The goal, of course, is to focus on the next World Championships, which will be the most important event of all, in addition to a number of other important events. Khalifa Abdulmalik expressed his delight at the continuing success being achieved by our world champion
