Despite competing for the first time at the great global event, young Qatari champion Ashraf Al Saifi put in a good performance in the hammer throw final and competed with all his strength after deservedly qualifying for the final. However, the gap in experience and seasoning kept him from a better placing, though he gained valuable experience from his first appearance at the World Championships, competing among hammer-throw giants such as Poland’s Paweł Fajdek, Tajikistan’s Dilshod Nazarov and Poland’s Wojciech Nowicki, who took the competition’s three medals.
Al Saifi threw the hammer 74.90m, a mark below what was expected of him, though his lack of experience in finals was behind his missing out on a podium finish in his first appearance.
