Mohammed Suleiman, assistant secretary general: ‘He wrote a new epic in Rio’

Mohammed Suleiman, assistant secretary general of the Qatar Athletics Federation, praised the high level and heroic performance of the talented Mutaz Essa Barshim, who wrote a new epic for his country at the Rio 2016 Olympics, considering Mutaz’s Olympic silver achievement to be a huge boost for him to continue on the path of titles and major championships, and adding that Olympic champion Mutaz Essa Barshim had honoured his promise and given considerable effort over recent months in pursuit of honouring his country and repaying his debt to the leadership, and “we thank God for his excellence and for giving Qatar a remarkable achievement that adds to our chain of great sporting achievements, and we thank God greatly that the mother of all sports has now become the sport with the greatest sporting achievement for the State of Qatar. Without doubt this is a great responsibility and a heavy burden on us to work hard to build on our tally and maintain our leadership,” he affirmed, stressing that the Qatari delegation experienced glorious moments of pride and honour at champion Barshim’s high jump achievement,    noting that Mutaz Essa Barshim had proven his standing and brilliance on the big occasions, and that a great future still lay ahead of him, and Olympic athlete Suleiman hoped that Rio would be merely a gateway through which he passes towards a wider horizon to sit atop the throne of high jump over the coming decade, calling on him and his fellow ambassadors of Qatar’s national team athletics to make further progress and rise in the major championships to raise Qatar’s flag high.
