Mohammed Jassim Al Kuwari, head of our national team’s delegation at the Asian Youth Championships, congratulated Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatari and Asian federations and IAAF vice-president, on our champions Mohanad Khamis and Moaz Ibrahim winning the steeplechase and discus gold medals at the 17th Asian Youth Athletics Championships. Al Kuwari said there had been great confidence in Qatar’s champions as they competed in the youth category despite being of junior age, adding that succeeding in the Asian-Qatari challenge represents an achievement for athletics, especially with a generation of champions who are all juniors except for two in the youth category.
Al Kuwari, the federation’s Secretary General, stressed that Qatar’s major success at the championships is a driving incentive for the junior champions to continue their success in the future, especially since the federation gave them the opportunity to compete against an older category to gain experience for future challenges. Mohammed Jassim pointed to the upcoming World Youth Championships, where Qatar will have champions capable of continuing the achievements of Qatari athletics.
