Mohammed Jassim Al Kuwari, secretary general of the athletics federation, said holding the first coaches’ course for youth athletics coaches at continental level, on the sidelines of the Asian championships, was a pioneering idea to the credit of the Qatar federation under HE Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, and said: We hope the championship turns out in the best possible shape, as is usual for Qatar’s organisation of various sporting events, and we will do our utmost to achieve that.
He added: We are not at all worried about the pressure of organising the Asian championships and the Diamond League together, because we are already used to organising back-to-back championships, as happened two years ago when we hosted the Gulf and Arab championships as well as the Diamond League, and thank God those championships turned out in the best possible way thanks to the effort and dedication of our young staff.
On our team’s chances in the competition, Al Kuwari said: Our main goal first is to gain exposure against established Asian teams like China, and then follow the example of the top team, stressing that the youth team is still a beginner.
Al Kuwari also confirmed that the Qatari team achieved outstanding results at the recent Arab Championships and won several medals, which is a strong incentive to achieve more in upcoming championships.
