Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, secretary general of the Qatar Athletics Federation, mourned the late runner, our champion Abdalelah Haroun, who passed away in the early hours of today following a tragic accident.
Al Fadala wrote on his Twitter account: “A journey filled with hard work, challenge, determination and resolve… ended swiftly. We knew you as a person… loving toward everyone, we knew you as a champion… in love with success. Your passing is a shock… and a great loss for the mother of Qatari and Arab sport. Farewell, Abdalelah Haroun… Indeed we belong to God and to Him we shall return.”
Al Fadala added: “Haroun died in a traffic accident in Doha, where he was undergoing a rehabilitation programme after recovering from an injury, in order to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
He continued: “Fate decreed that this death occur, and Qatari sport and athletics worldwide have lost a great champion from whom Qatari sport expected many more successes and medals.”
