Champion Mariam Farid, aged 16, Doha 2019 bid ambassador and a member of the Qatar national athletics team, said: “I am very happy that Doha won the right to host the 2019 World Athletics Championships, and this day is one of the happiest moments of my life. I was honoured to attend the IAAF and to represent my country and the millions of girls across the Middle East who aspire to fulfil their dreams. Doha hosting the 2019 edition of the World Athletics Championships will encourage and inspire many girls in the region to take part in athletics at every level, and this will be a source of pride for all of us.”
