Major General Dahlan wishes clubs every success as new season’s Qatar athletics championships begin today

The Qatar Athletics Federation’s first championships of the 2015/2016 season begin today with the cross-country championship for pee-wees and youth at Aspire Park, after it had been held at Al Rayyan Park in previous years. The same championship continues for cadets and juniors on Tuesday and concludes on Wednesday with the girls’ and open competitions. The season will see numerous championships for all age groups aimed at attracting national talent and benefiting from it in the future in the national teams. HE the federation’s president, Major General Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, invited all clubs to take an active part and to work on providing every means to help talents succeed in showcasing their hoped-for abilities. He said: I wish all the clubs joining the athletics family success and achievement of their hoped-for goals in a new season, in which we hope to see plenty of rivalry and competition between clubs for the titles, especially since the talent exists and needs the opportunity to prove itself in local challenges before reaching and shining on the international stage. I am confident in the clubs’ ability to provide every resource to help their stars’ progress succeed, especially since we in the athletics federation see partnership with the clubs as contributing to Qatar athletics’ excellence

There is no doubt that the new season for Qatar athletics will see numerous championships. It begins with the cross-country championship, then the first athletics festival for children on 23 November, then the cross-country relay championship for pee-wees and youth on 30 November, and the following day the same championship for cadets and juniors, then the start of the Qatar Cup for indoor athletics from 7 December, to be followed by the same championships in the days that follow

The finale will be the most prized of all the championships, the Amir Cup, on 9 May, a championship that sees intense competition to reach the most prized of all trophies, with the championships held serving as an opportunity for clubs to accumulate points to help win the overall shield
