HE Major General Staff Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatar and Asian athletics federations and vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, credited Qatari athletics’ achievements over the past year to our wise leadership. He said that without the great support and generous patronage of our wise leadership for sport in Qatar in general, and athletics in particular, Qatari athletics would not have achieved anything. He added that behind this achievement stand officials whose support for raising Qatar’s standing in every international forum had produced striking success recognised across the whole world.
He stressed that work to develop athletics was continuing with sound planning, and that the future would see Qatari excellence across various fields and in global, continental and Olympic challenges, especially since Qatar has a great name and reputation in athletics, and Qatar’s champions would be competing in the various championships to come, further confirming Qatar’s superiority over many countries. This was especially true given the substantial work being done at the level of officials, judging and technical staff, and the development of Qatari personnel in administrative work, particularly with major challenges awaiting Qatar on home soil, most notably the 2019 World Championships. Qatar is now also leading athletics on the Asian continent, with Major General Staff Dahlan Al Hamad heading the Asian federation, while a number of Qatari administrative and technical personnel serve on the federation’s working committees, reflecting Qatar’s distinction in its administrative and technical staff, something that contributes to the sport’s development
