Major General Dahlan Al Hamad: support of HH the Amir behind Qatar athletics’ excellence

HE Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatar Athletics Federation, extended the deepest thanks and gratitude to HH the Amir of the country for his continuous support and constant backing of Qatar athletics. He said in his address: administrative, technical and organisational achievements by Qatar in international forums, whether at the level of Qatari athletes’ achievements or at the level of managing and organising international and world championships, could not have been realised without the great support, patronage and constant follow-up of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Amir of the country, may God protect and preserve him

He added: we are addressing the administrative, technical and organisational aspects related to the federation’s progress this year, and we are pleased to hear your observations, opinions, perceptions and ideas on developing this progress towards better standards, so that we achieve our ambition of serving the State of Qatar in athletics at international forums

HE also extended thanks and appreciation to the Qatar athletics family for the outstanding efforts they made during the federation’s local and international activities, which resulted in numerous sporting achievements and victories in athletics at international and world forums. Anyone following Qatar’s recent achievements in athletics, whether at the level of local championships or international and world championships, can see clearly that the Qatar Athletics Federation is on the right path and that the plans the federation has put in place to advance Qatari athletics have begun to bear fruit across the board. This was confirmed by the elections and by the achievements realised at Gulf, Arab, Asian and world forums, most recently Qatar’s win of the vice-presidency of the IAAF in the IAAF elections held in Beijing ahead of the World Athletics Championships in August 2015, and Qatar’s win of the presidency of the Asian Athletics Association in June of this year unopposed, as well as three board members winning seats on Asian Athletics Association committees, specifically the technical committee, the cross-country committee and the women’s committee. In addition, the Qatar Athletics Federation organised in May of this year the Asian Athletics Championships for youth, held for the first time on a Qatari proposal given the great importance of this age group in feeding Asian national teams with talented athletes in the future. The Qatar Athletics Federation also organised, in May, three days after that championship, the Diamond League meeting, which was one of the most successful Diamond League meetings. Qatar also took first place in the Asian Athletics Championships for men held in June in Wuhan, China, and four of our athletes qualified for the final at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing two months ago. On the records front, our athletes set (4) Asian records and (22) Qatari records in international championships this season, and (9) Qatari records in local championships this season, evidence of the great progress in our athletes’ technical achievements. These achievements were the fruit of the efforts of everyone – the board members and the federation’s working committees, the heads of committees at international championships and those working with them among the administrators, technicians, media staff, officials, preparation and logistics teams and volunteers and security personnel, and everyone who contributed an idea, an observation or an opinion towards the success of the federation’s progress and pushing its wheel forward. It is our duty to extend to them our deepest thanks, appreciation and gratitude for the strenuous efforts they made, which strengthened, contributed to and achieved successes for our beloved country, Qatar.

 .

In closing his address, HE extended thanks and appreciation to the media in its various forms and to the official sponsors of the federation’s championships, and to our partners in local and international championships for the support they provided to the federation’s local and international activities. He also extended thanks and appreciation to the heads of the administrative and technical bodies at the clubs, and to the male and female athletes, guardians, officials, and preparation, logistics and electronic equipment teams for the effort they put in during this season. We hope God grants us success in our endeavour to advance Qatari athletics and bring it to the best levels.
