Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatari and Asian federations: our national teams are ready for upcoming challenges, and we congratulate Al Sadd on the federation shield

Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatari and Asian athletics federations and IAAF vice-president, congratulated Al Sadd on winning the men’s federation shield, and also congratulated Al Rayyan on finishing runners-up and Al Gharafa on third place, expressing his satisfaction at seeing shifts and changes in the teams’ positions during the federation shield competition.

He said: “We would have liked the national team players to take part with their clubs in the federation shield, but their overseas training camps prevented that. Their absence also had its positive side, as it showed the true strength of the teams, reflecting the clubs’ efforts and their commitment to athletics.”

On the readiness of our national teams and their ambitions for the upcoming commitments — the Gulf championship in Saudi Arabia, the Arab championship in Bahrain, and the Asian junior championship?

He said: “Thank God, our national teams are preparing strongly for the challenges ahead, and our confidence is boundless in the stars of our national teams and their ability to achieve new accomplishments for Qatari sport.”

Asked whether the organising committee would announce the names of champions taking part in the Doha Diamond League meeting, Major General Al Hamad said: “In the coming days we will reveal the names of a new group of world champions, men and women. We hope the Doha meeting remains the best in every respect, as we have accustomed the world to a strong Doha meeting that sets the tone for the rest of the season.”
