Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatari and Asian federations: our wise leadership’s support is behind athletics’ achievements

Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatari and Asian federations and IAAF vice-president, attributed Qatari athletics’ major achievement on the third day of the Asian Championships — two gold medals plus a silver won by promising champion Idris Yousef — to the great support of our wise leadership for sport in general and athletics in particular. He said that without their generous support and patronage, Qatari sport’s achievements would not have been possible, and praised the great success of Qatar’s three champions Mohanad Khamis and Moaz Ibrahim in winning the steeplechase and discus gold medals and Idris Yousef in winning 1500m silver, hoping for more gold for Qatar in today’s 800m final.

Major General Al Hamad also praised the enthusiasm of Qatar’s youth, saying they have a great opportunity to improve their results as the championships continue, noting that the current edition is the strongest in terms of the number of participants and the strong standards shown by the competition, which is considered a record in the continent’s history.

Major General Al Hamad affirmed that the athletics federation is committed to bringing generation after generation and relying on a solid base that develops over time to produce champions for the present and future, noting that the current generation is a promising one that will defend the ambitions of Qatari athletics in the future, and praised what has been achieved. Al Hamad was keen to congratulate the Qatari delegation in Vietnam and its technical staff for their great work, especially as the championships have once again revealed wonderful Qatari talents capable of continuing to progress and reach the best achievements in the coming period.
