Major General Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, president of the Qatar and Asian athletics federations and vice-president of the IAAF, confirmed that Qatar had submitted its bid yesterday to host the 2019 outdoor World Athletics Championships, expressing hope that Qatar would have the honour of hosting the world championship .
Al Hamad said Qatar had submitted a complete bid capable of convincing the international community, especially as there were several countries bidding to host the World Championships and there would be fierce competition for the honour of hosting, noting that Qatar, which impresses the world whenever it organises any global sporting championship in any sport, would impress the world again when it organises the 2019 World Championships, just as it impressed the international athletics community when it organised
the World Indoor Championships in 2010 at Aspire. Doha has also hosted, since 1997, the first leg of the Diamond League, in which the world’s top stars with Olympic and world achievements compete, drawing huge crowds of athletics fans.
It is understood that four countries submitted bids to host the 2019 World Athletics Championships, including the United States and Turkey.
The athletics federation family is looking forward to having the honour of hosting the 2019 World Championships, especially since it was unsuccessful in its bid to host the 2017 edition, which London won, while the Chinese capital Beijing will host the 2015 edition.
For his part, Mohammed Jassim Al Kuwari, secretary general of the Athletics Federation, said it would be an honour to host the 2019 World Championships, and that they were hopeful and confident their bid would win the trust of the international community, especially as Qatar impresses the world whenever it organises any global championship. Thanks to its excellent organisation, Qatar had earned the honour of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2015 Handball World Championship and the UCI Road World Championships, and had previously organised the 2010 World Indoor Championships, impressing the world
