Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, President of the Qatar and Asian Athletics Federations: our participation is a new model for Qatari sport

Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, President of the Qatar and Asian Athletics Federations and Vice-President of the IAAF, extended his thanks and appreciation to the officials of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy for the efforts they are making day and night to organise a World Cup worthy of the name and reputation of the State of Qatar on the international stage, noting that the Supreme Committee’s participation with a dedicated pavilion at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, as part of the Qatar House activities, represents a new success in its journey and its overseas projects, providing an important and valuable opportunity for visitors to Qatar House and Olympic fans to learn about the latest progress in Qatar’s preparations to host the 2022 World Cup.

During his visit yesterday to the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy pavilion, Al Hamad said that the strong turnout of visitors to the pavilion confirmed how passionate the Brazilian people are about football and how keen they are to follow Qatar’s World Cup projects, including stadiums, infrastructure projects and more.

Dahlan Al Hamad noted that taking part in these events was of great importance, since most of the visitors to Qatar House were members of the International Olympic Committee, presidents of international federations and national Olympic committees, who were keen to attend the Olympics and visit Qatar House alongside the sporting events. He explained that the presidents of the international federations had praised Qatar House highly and were keen to visit every pavilion and spend time there, especially the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy pavilion, which includes information and data about Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup.

The President of the Qatar and Asian Athletics Federations said that Qatar’s participation in the Rio Olympics with the largest delegation in the history of its overseas participations, and the opening of Qatar House — the largest and only such house among the participating Arab countries, held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee — represented a new milestone in the history of Qatari sport, adding to Qatar’s achievements in all fields under the leadership of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, may God protect him.
