HE Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatar and Asian athletics federations and IAAF vice-president, made a point of congratulating the flying boy Mutaz Essa Barshim on his wonderful achievement in Zurich and his being crowned Diamond League champion for the second year running. Major General Al Hamad said: “After Mutaz’s dip in results and his failure to win any medal in Beijing, our confidence in him was not shaken in the slightest, because we truly believe in his high ability and his technical and physical potential, and thank God he lived up to everyone’s expectations in Zurich and succeeded in achieving a wonderful feat for Qatari sport in general and athletics in particular on the world stage”
HE Major General Dahlan Al Hamad noted that a true champion is one who rises quickly after any setback, because falling once is not the end, and that you must have faith in your abilities and potential, and that this is what sport teaches us, and it is also how champions are made, and added: “We congratulate him on this wonderful achievement in the Diamond League, and we urge our champion and the rest of our champions on the need to keep up the hard work and intensive training to raise Qatar’s name high, because this is our loftiest goal for us all. Personally, I am optimistic about Barshim at the upcoming Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and I hope, God willing, that gold will be his, because he truly deserves it”
