HE Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatar and Asian athletics federations and IAAF vice president, affirmed that the start of the season had been outstanding and promised a strong season for Qatari athletics, noting that the strength of competition was reflected in the exchange of positions among clubs, with a number of clubs jumping to the front and excelling, while several clubs fielded good groups across the three categories of juniors, mini-cadets and cadets.
He said the start of the season was full of surprises that boosted competition in grassroots athletics, congratulating Al Khor Club on taking first place in all three categories, and commending the clubs that competed for the top spots, such as Qatar SC, Al Arabi and Al Ahli. Al Hamad hoped for even more competition to serve Qatari athletics, which he said is the federation’s policy for the future, especially since these categories represent the future of the sport. He stressed that Qatari athletics is constantly seeking to support clubs and bring them to their best, especially as clubs are the essential partner in Qatari athletics’ journey and the primary supporter of the national teams. He affirmed that Qatari athletics has continued to possess talents capable of honouring Qatari sport in any external event, since the great attention from the wise leadership contributes to reaching the best, and the support and backing of the Olympic Committee contributes to complete effort and determination to achieve full excellence.
