Jamaica continues to sweep world gold as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce crowned fastest woman in the world

Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was crowned the fastest woman on earth, retaining the title she won at the previous championships. The diminutive Jamaican claimed the 100m gold in a time of 10.76 seconds yesterday, in a strong contest with the Netherlands’ Dafne Schippers, who took silver in 10.81 seconds, while America’s Tori Bowie claimed bronze in 10.86 seconds. The race saw surprises, with American Simpson and returning Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown both failing to advance.

With this result, Jamaica has now claimed the first two golds of the championships in the sprints, awaiting the bigger showdown with the United States in the men’s and women’s 200m and the 4x100m and 4x400m relays for both categories — a sign that the coming challenges will set the World Championships in China alight.

American-based Ahmed Ali chooses to defend Sudan’s flag

The World Athletics Championships in China are currently seeing the first appearance of Sudanese runner Ahmed Ali in the 200m today. Ahmed Ali, who is based in the United States but chose to compete under his home country’s name, will take on his first challenge in the 200m sprint, with good chances of reaching the semi-finals, especially since he deservedly qualified for this major event. He hopes to fly Sudan’s flag alongside his teammate Mohammed Younis, who competes in the high jump tomorrow.

Ahmed Ali has a personal best of 20.16 seconds, meaning that if he produces a better level than that he will certainly achieve his goal in a race that includes Jamaican hurricane Usain Bolt.
