Qatari jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim seems to love breaking Qatari and Arab records. At his training camp in Sweden, in preparation for the Asian Junior Championships to be held in Vietnam from 1- 4 July and the World Junior Championships to be held in Canada from 25 -29 August, the Qatari jumper Barshim managed to break the Arab junior high jump record for the fourth time this season, with a height of 2.27 m . The previous record under his name, at 2.25 m, had lasted only a single week . As a result, the number of records set by Barshim during this sporting season has reached (8) Qatari records for juniors and men and (4) Arab records — an unprecedented haul of records within a single season, especially in the high jump, which demands high physical ability to achieve greater feats, a quality the young jumper Barshim possesses. This achievement puts him in position, God willing, to win the gold medal in the high jump at the World Junior Championships to be held in Canada in August, when compared with the gold medallist in the high jump at the previous World Junior Championships, held in Poland in 2008, Ukraine’s Bohdan Bondarenko, who cleared the bar at a height of 2.26 m . Barshim trains under the guidance of Swedish coach Stanislav Kirpa, who has managed to raise Barshim’s performances from 2.14 m to 2.27 m during the sporting season.
Promising Qatari champion Mutaz Essa Barshim set a new national and Arab junior high jump record with a height of (2.25) m at his training camp currently under way in Sweden, in preparation for the Asian Junior Championships to be held in Vietnam from 1-4/7/2010 and the World Junior Championships to be held in Canada from 25-29/8/2010. The promising champion Barshim has broken the Arab junior record three times this season in international competitions, setting the first mark in April in Kuwait at the GCC Junior Championship with a height of (2.21)m, then breaking it in Cairo at the Arab Junior Championships in May with a height of (2.23) m then breaking it again with his current mark in Sweden of (2.25) m, this mark also standing as a Qatari record for the junior and men’s categories. Barshim also managed, at a training camp in Sweden in February, to break the Qatari indoor record for juniors and men with a height of (2.25) m bringing the number of records set by our promising champion this season to (11) records for juniors and men, indoors and outdoors, including three Arab junior records.
