Our world champion Femi Femi Ogunode won gold in the men’s 200m in athletics at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Ogunode (23) completed the distance in a time of 20.14 seconds, setting a new Asian Games record and breaking Japan’s Koji Ito’s mark of 20.25 s, set at the 1998 Bangkok Games. The Qatari finished ahead of Saudi Arabia’s Fahad Al Subaie (20.74 s) and South Korea’s Hwa Sowa Yeo (20.82 s).
It was Ogunode’s second gold. He had earlier won the 100m with an Asian record of 9.93 seconds, becoming only the second Asian sprinter to break the 10-second barrier after his compatriot Samuel Francis, while Oman’s Barakat Al Harthi finished seventh, second-to-last in the field, (21.71 s).
