Event Sustainability Management System Policy

Event Sustainability Management System Policy

The Qatar Athletic Federation (QAF) has been a vital force in promoting athletics in Qatar since its
establishment. In collaboration with the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), one of the 205 National
Olympic Committees (NOCs) recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the QAF is
dedicated to driving sustainable sports development in the country, working towards ATHLETICS
with PURPOSE.
To position itself as a leader in event sustainability management, the Qatar Athletic Federation
(QAF) is committed to conducting its event‐related activities in accordance with the ISO 20121
Standard. The following 12 points, which form the acronym “SUSTAINABLE,” outline QAF’s
commitment:
1. Supporting our employees, athletes, and sustainability champions through education
initiatives, training, knowledge sharing, and legacy transfer, with a focus on fostering a
culture of gender equity and inclusivity.
2. Upholding a framework for sustainable development objectives that align with the United
Nations (UN) sustainability goals (SDG), IOC Agenda, and the principles of sustainable
development: inclusivity, integrity, stewardship, transparency, and legacy, as referenced in
our Statement of Purpose and Values.
3. Streamlining every aspect of the event management cycle, from conception and planning to
implementation, review, and post‐event activities.
4. Tackling environmental impact, promoting economic growth, and fostering sustainable
communities.
5. Adopting significant actions and changes in key areas, such as communication, procurement,
health and safety, energy, air, waste, community, mobility, transport, food, and venues, with
a focus on enhancing the overall experience and well‐being of athletes and fostering a
positive sports environment.
6. Integrating sustainability throughout our supply chain management.
7. Nurturing dialogue with stakeholders and interested parties, including athletes, to raise
awareness, secure their support, and gather their input and feedback.
8. Accentuating stakeholder engagement and collaboration, with a focus on creating equal
opportunities for all athletes, regardless of their gender, age, or ability.
9. Bolstering our performance by conducting audits, measuring, and monitoring our progress
against sustainability principles and objectives.
10. Leveraging continuous improvement of our event sustainability management system for
each event and year.
11. Ensuring the provision of necessary resources to guarantee the effectiveness and efficiency
of our event sustainability management system.
This policy will be reviewed at least once a year and will be made known to all QAF employees.
Additionally, it will be available to all stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, and the general
public, via our website and upon request.
