Diri bows out of the Olympics as Ashraf Al Seify faces his biggest challenge today

Today, our talented champion Ashraf Al Seify faces the challenge of the hammer throw final in the athletics competition at the Olympic Games currently under way in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which concludes next Sunday. The promising giant Al Seify qualified for the final last Tuesday, recording a mark of 73.47m, joining a list of 11 other athletes who achieved the qualifying marks, with the participants split into two groups, from which only 12 throwers qualified to compete tomorrow for the coloured medals in the hammer throw, and the qualifying round for both groups was marked by below-average performances, affected by the high temperatures, with the athletes recording low marks far from expectations, which everyone attributed to the harsh weather during the morning session. For his part, Al Seify expressed his satisfaction at reaching the Olympic hammer final, acknowledging that the recorded mark was well below his personal best and promising to give his best in tomorrow’s final, noting that all the athletes suffered from the heat and were greatly affected by it, in addition to having to wake up early to move from the village to the venue to begin warm-up and check-in procedures. It is worth noting that our champion Al Seify holds the youth world record and is champion of the 2013 Barcelona and 2015 USA World Championships, and is currently among the elite of young throwing champions with his notable hammer throw mark of 85.57m. Al Seify enjoys full support and backing from the administrative and technical staff of the national teams, alongside high-level, professional training under his expert world-class coach Alexey Malyukov, under whom Al Seify’s talent flourished and quickly achieved a major technical and numerical breakthrough, earning appreciation and admiration, and Al Seify’s chances look good against the world’s champions head-to-head despite this being his first Olympic participation.

Diri bows out of the javelin

Champion Ahmed Diri bowed out of the javelin competition at the Rio Olympics, recording a mark of 77.47m, and consequently failed to qualify alongside the elite in his first Olympic participation. The promising Diri had qualified for the Olympics with a notable mark, but faced difficulties in the Olympic challenge and started tensely due to lack of experience, and committed two foul throws, which cost him the chance to make amends. Overall, national teams director Khalifa Abdulmalik considered Diri’s participation to be positive, given it was his first international and Olympic experience, which represented a heavy burden on him in his first representation, affirming that the road ahead of him remains long, with many challenges awaiting him, and God willing he will be ready for the World Championships in London 2017, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics
