HE Major General Dahlan Al Hamad, president of the Qatari and Asian federations and vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, held a phone call with Khalifa Abdulmalik, head of the delegation taking part in the World Indoor Championships, to check on the athletes’ condition and their readiness to take on the challenge, urging the Qatari trio to represent Qatari track and field in the best possible light and with the finest representation at this world indoor event, reminding everyone of the importance of the challenge and the need to give their best effort to prove themselves and honour their country among the giants of world track and field, and passing on the wishes and prayers of all the fans of Qatari athletics. He considered the World Championships to be an additional, positive stop for our champions before the most important and most prized event, namely the Olympics, scheduled for Rio, because the goal is to be strongly present and confirm the presence of Qatari sport through track and field in ideal fashion, expressing his great confidence in the champions of our national team, who continually aspire to honour Qatari sport and return home with the most important achievements. The positive dress rehearsal at the Asian Indoor Championships held in Doha was a good indicator of how ready Qatar’s athletics champions are, despite the technical gap between the two championships, but the most important thing is to achieve the best results.
HE Major General Dahlan stressed the strength of the World Championships and the large participation of the world’s male and female champions, which indicates that the start of the season will be the strongest yet, all pointing to an Olympics that will see a great deal of close competition and excitement, and he hoped our champions would succeed in presenting the best technical picture given the positive preparation over the past period, renewing his confidence in our champions and their ability to achieve excellence.
