HE Abdullah Ahmed Al Zaini, President of the Federation, opened the first meeting of 2012 and spoke about the achievements secured by our players and the Qatari, Arab and Asian records set by them this season through their participation in domestic and international championships. He noted that proposals to amend certain articles and clauses of the players’ affairs and local championships regulations should serve Qatari athletics and provide the best conditions for coaches and players in the national teams and sports clubs, and should improve the organisational standard of local competitions. The meeting discussed several items on its agenda, including approval of the minutes of the board’s third meeting and of the technical committee’s third meeting, after discussing numerous technical and organisational proposals concerning the players’ affairs and local championships regulations for the coming 2012-2013 season, submitted by the sports clubs taking part in local championships, as well as proposals, views and ideas put forward by members of the technical and players’ affairs committee. Starting next season the federation will begin using an electronic system for registering players and championship entries by email, as is done in the entry system of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The photo-finish system will also be updated and a new heats-and-final format introduced for local championships, along with an international course on the photo-finish and results system in cooperation with the regional development centre in Cairo affiliated with the IAAF, with the participation of Gulf Cooperation Council states. During the discussions numerous proposals were approved for implementation next season. The board was then briefed on the technical report of the Arab Athletics Federation on the 12th Arab tournament, presented by technical delegate Dr Mahjoub Said, who praised the wonderful organisational standard and the excellent services the federation provided to officials, technical staff, coaches and players, at a level comparable to what is offered at World Athletics Championships, and thanked and commended the federation for its cooperation and efforts in managing and organising the championship. The board also discussed proposals concerning the rules and conditions for appointing coaches at sports clubs, and reviewed the schedule of championships of the Gulf Cooperation Council athletics organising committee for the 2013/2014 season. At the end of the meeting, HE Abdullah Ahmed Al Zaini, President of the Federation, wished everyone continued effort in serving Qatari athletics in the national teams and sports clubs next season, and urged them to raise the standard of domestic and international championships administratively, technically and organisationally, especially since next year the State of Qatar will host the Gulf Cooperation Council athletics championship for juniors and men in April 2013 and the Arab Athletics Championships for men and women in October 2013. He stressed the need to combine efforts for the success of these championships through cooperation and coordination and by bringing something new to the management and organisation of international championships, a hallmark that always distinguishes the State of Qatar.
