Al Sadd tops the Cubs and Juniors indoor athletics standings, setting 7 Qatari records, 6 of them by Al Sadd

Al Sadd Sports Club opened its victories at the start of the athletics season with two big wins over Qatar’s clubs in the Cubs and Juniors categories. In the Cubs category, Al Sadd’s athletes settled the contest from the first day of the Qatar Indoor Cup, and by the third and final day had had the final word, sweeping past the other clubs to total 137 points, a wide margin ahead of runners-up Al Gharafa, whose athletes totalled 54 points, with Qatar SC third on 37.5 points. Al Sadd’s Cubs were not satisfied with this win alone, breaking 4 Qatari records at the championship, led by Saad Ahmed Rashid Al Manai, who broke his own previous Qatari records in the high jump and long jump, set last season, with new Qatari records: he began with the high jump, breaking his Qatari record with a height of 1.51m, then broke his long jump record with a distance of 4.48m, after which he joined his Al Sadd teammates in breaking the Qatari record in the 4x50m relay in 28.75 seconds. His teammate Rabia Ibrahim Al Kuwari also broke the Qatari record in the combined events / quadrathlon with a total of 1,548 points, a huge margin over the previous record of 811 points. Al Sadd’s Cubs thus deservedly swept the championship.

In the Qatar Indoor Cup for Juniors, Al Sadd’s athletes followed in their Cubs teammates’ footsteps, not content with first place on 130 points but also breaking two records, the first in the combined events, where Al Sadd’s Marzouq Abdul Rahman Al Abdullah totalled 3,201 points, breaking the previous record of 2,133 points by a very wide margin in the combined-events scoring, and the second in the 4x200m relay in 1:36.44. Champion Hamza Deriouche of Qatar SC also set a new Qatari record in the indoor 1500m in 3:55.31. Al Gharafa finished second in the Juniors championship with 71 points, and Qatar SC third with 63.5 points. This means the ranking of the top three clubs in the Cubs championship was repeated in the Juniors championship.
