As usual, Al Sadd deservedly topped the club athletics championships, with its athletes mounting the podium and its officials collecting
the trophies in the finals of the federation shield championships for the Baraem, Ashbal and Nashein categories, finishing well ahead of the other clubs, by as much as double the points in each championship. This reflects the sound approach set out by the club’s administrative and technical leadership for developing athletics at the club, and shows the extent of the board’s interest in and support for athletics. Al Sadd’s athletes topped the Baraem championship with a total of 131 points, while Al Rayyan came second with 55 points and Al Arabi third with 50 points. Two national records were broken in this championship: the first by Al Sadd’s Saad Ahmed Rashed in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.53m, and the second by Al Ahli’s Hashel Salem Ali in the javelin throw, with a distance of 35.46m. In the Ashbal championship, Al Sadd finished first with 229 points, Al Gharafa came second with 100 points, and Qatar SC took third place with 68 points. Three national records were also broken in this championship, all by Al Sadd athletes: Rashed Ali Rashed in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.56m, and Omar Abdullah Anbar, also of Al Sadd, in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.26 seconds, with the same athlete also setting a new record in the 300m hurdles with a time of 39.79 seconds. In the Nashein championship, Al Sadd soared to the top with 185 points, while runner-up Qatar SC collected 91 points and Al Arabi came third with 85 points.
