Al Sadd honours our champion Abderrahman Samba

Al Sadd held a wonderful ceremony last Thursday to honour Al Sadd and national athletics team player Abderrahman Samba, on the occasion of his winning World Championship bronze in the 400m hurdles at the Doha 2019 championships.

The ceremony, which was outstanding in its organisation, drew a large turnout from the whole Al Sadd athletics family, as well as officials, coaches and administrators from other clubs, along with a number of fans of the sport and Al Sadd members.

Samba received praise from everyone in attendance at the ceremony, who affirmed that he deserved the honour and celebration in recognition of his achievement, and wished him further victories and titles.

Mr Turki Al Ali, the club’s general manager, honoured the world champion by presenting him with the club shield in recognition of his achievements at the recent World Championships.

The ceremony was attended by Talal Mansour, assistant secretary-general of the Qatar Athletics Federation, and Tunisia’s Habiba Ghribi, Olympic and world 3000m steeplechase medallist. The general manager welcomed all those present and offered champion Samba his congratulations on the wonderful achievement he had made at the World Championships, through which he helped fly Qatar’s flag high at one of the biggest and most important global sporting events.

Our champion Abderrahman Samba expressed his happiness at the honour and said: “I’m very happy with this recognition, and I thank Al Sadd for this kind gesture. This honour is for all my teammates in this golden era of Qatari athletics, especially since we were one team, and without my teammates’ encouragement and the support of the federation, the officials and the club, this medal – which I’m very proud of – would not have been achieved.

He added: “This gesture is nothing new from Al Sadd, and I thank them for this honour,” noting that the recognition was motivation to keep working on good preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
