Al Jaish opened their campaign in the Qatari clubs championships with victory in the Baraem cross country over (2) km, held at Al Rayyan Park on Monday 21/11/2011, after their best four athletes finished in positions (1, 3, 8, 14) for a total of (26) points, ahead of Al Sadd, who scored (34) points after their best four athletes finished in positions (2, 4, 6, 22), while Al Gharafa took third place with (52) points, their athletes finishing in positions (5, 12, 15, 20). Al Jaish thus made a successful start, especially as they are taking part in the Qatari clubs championships for the first time and managed to enter competition in this category from the start of the 2011-2012 sporting season. We hope they continue to succeed in the athletics championships and compete for top spot, through the efforts of their administrative and technical staff who are keen to beat the Qatari clubs, noting that Al Jaish will take part this season in only three categories – Amal, Baraem and Ashbal – and will join the remaining categories in future seasons, gradually, until all their categories are complete and they can compete for points in the Overall Excellence Shield.
In the Ashbal category, where athletes ran (3) km, Al Sadd topped the standings with (30) points, followed by newcomers Al Jaish, three points behind, with (33) points, while Al Gharafa took third place, well behind their rivals on points, with their athletes totalling (70) points.
In the Nashieen cross country championship over (5) km, Al Sadd retained their superiority over the other clubs and won the title’s gold with a total of (27) points, while Al Arabi took the silver with (45) points, and Al Gharafa held on to third place, as in the Baraem and Ashbal championships, with their athletes totalling (55) points.
In the Shabab cross country over (8) km, Al Sadd found no strong rival and beat the other clubs with a total of (26) points, against (56) points for Al Rayyan, who took second place, while Al Arabi came third with their athletes totalling (60) points.
Al Sadd rounded off their sweep of the Qatari clubs with victory in the men’s cross country, and after covering (10) km their athletes took the leading positions of (1, 2, 7, 11) for a total of (21) points, well ahead of runners-up Al Wakrah, whose athletes totalled (52) points, while Al Rayyan had to settle for third place with (65) points.
As an initiative to develop the technical performance of female athletes, the Girls’ Training Centre took part in a cross country championship over (2) km with (20) athletes, led by Heral Agrawal, with Nada Nabil taking second place and Heba Abdennasser third. Ms Mariam Abdullah presented the medals to the top ten athletes.
With these results, Al Sadd completed a fine sweep of five titles over the three days of the cross country championships, attended by board members Mr Adel Al Baker, Secretary General, Mr Issa Al Harami, Assistant Secretary General, Mr Mohammed Ahmed Suleiman, board member, Mr Yaqoub Yousuf Abdullah, board member, Ms Mariam Abdullah, board member, Mr Khalifa Yousuf Abdulmalik, the federation’s executive director, and Mr Yousuf Ahmed, Treasurer, who were assigned as technical observers throughout the days of the cross country championships across all categories. The championships were also attended by a crowd of athletics fans and the sport’s administrative and technical staff. At the close of each cross country championship, board members presented medals to the top ten finishers in each category, and trophies were then presented to the clubs finishing in the top three places in each category.
The following are the team and individual results of the cross country championships for all categories.
