HE Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, chairman of the supreme organising committee and meeting director, opened the meeting, welcoming the attendees to their second meeting of the supreme organising committee for the Diamond League athletics championship, set to be held at Qatar SC on Friday 10 May 2013, and thanked them for their attendance and for presenting their committees’ work plans and requirements for the championship. He affirmed that, God willing, this year’s championship would deliver better results in administrative, technical and organisational terms, as preparations had begun early to avoid any issues or obstacles that might arise. He said early preparation and readiness of the championship’s needs and requirements would ensure good management and organisation, and give time to think, discuss and develop new ideas to raise the championship’s standard. This, he said, was the goal: for the championship to be distinctive, with its own character and a fresh face, with innovation always the key, and the secret of success in championships being to constantly upgrade ideas and how they are implemented, which delivers better organisation every year and keeps us ahead of other Diamond League meetings — especially since this year we will also organise the GCC athletics championship for juniors and men at the same stadium, which will be a useful experience, as we have invited Diamond League officials to join us in organising it and share their views, ideas and suggestions to avoid any issues that might occur in the Diamond League meeting, which will make our championship even more distinctive, God willing. This, he said, depended on their efforts and precision, as they were experienced in this field, with many having worked with the federation for many years and always able to deliver the best; and when the committees deliver their best, our championship will stand out and we will all be proud of it.

He then went through the agenda, which included discussion of the committees’ work plans, with the heads of committees presenting their plans and implementation methods and what distinguished the current plan with new ideas compared to last year’s plan. The chairman of the organising committee and meeting director focused the committees’ work plans on delivering what was new and the best ways to implement it, and on learning from the minor errors and issues that occurred last year to avoid repeating them and improve performance, since the championship’s success depends on our ability to improve our performance and reduce the slip-ups that could occur and affect our evaluation. He said the goal this year was for our evaluation of the championship to be better than last year and better than the European countries hosting Diamond League meetings.
At the conclusion of the meeting, HE Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, chairman of the organising committee and meeting director, thanked the heads of committees for the ideas they presented in their work plans and for their engagement in the meeting, which lasted more than four hours and was full of discussions, views and the proposal and debate of ideas to choose the best of them for implementation, in a way that ensures the championship is raised to higher standards — and this is what we want to achieve this year.
