Al Hamad: Qatar has become a source of organisational excellence
HE Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, federation president and chairman of the championship’s organising committee, opened the meeting by welcoming the attending heads of the working committees, expressing his appreciation and gratitude for the valued and dedicated efforts everyone had made in preparing and organising the event, now just a month away, hoping that efforts would come together and bear fruit in presenting the championship at a high, honourable standard that would enhance the esteemed reputation and standing Qatar has earned at the regional and international levels as a source of organisational excellence. He noted that this championship would be a good trial run for another challenge awaiting us, namely the Diamond League athletics championship in Doha next 10 May, and that this championship had its own special significance, as it had not been held in Doha for more than 15 years, so brothers in the Gulf states in general, and Arabs in particular, would be watching this championship closely to gauge our organisational capability and ability to impress, even though everyone was certain that Doha had become a model of organisation. He said he was confident that fellow committee heads understood this well and were working to translate ideas and proposals into actions and achievements on the ground, and that, God willing, the Gulf championship would be one of the standout events among GCC championships, meaning its organisational bar was set high and it would be a high-level championship administratively, organisationally and technically.

Qatari proposals.

Al Hamad then went through with the heads of committees the work assigned to them at the organisational level, and briefed everyone on the Qatari proposals to be presented at the meeting of Gulf federation presidents in Doha on the sidelines of the Gulf championship, aimed at advancing Gulf athletics, including a proposal to launch a Gulf grand prix championship to act as the locomotive driving the sport and providing organisational and technical expertise for all countries in future. He noted that the championship would also feature a course for Gulf officials (NTO), certifying them as national-international officials, and in conclusion he urged speeding up the pace of work to complete the requirements in record time, and set 10 March as the date for the third meeting of the supreme organising committee, thanking the members for their good cooperation, enthusiasm and engagement in the discussions and proposals to present the upcoming Gulf event at a high standard that would bring credit to Qatar.
