After achievements by Al Manai and Al Amin, Moaz Ibrahim claims shot put gold at the Arab Championships in Algeria

Our national youth and junior athletics team won three medals at the conclusion of the 17th Arab Athletics Championships, hosted by the Algerian city of Tlemcen from May 5-8, with the participation of Qatar and more than 16 Arab teams competing throughout the championship. Our national team’s champions won two gold medals and a silver, with the shining champion Sara Ahmed Al Manai winning gold in the javelin throw, noting that Sara had previously won gold at the Gulf Games in Bahrain.

Our promising champion Moaz Mohammed Ibrahim won the second gold medal in the shot put, while the third medal, a silver, went to promising star Mohammed Al Amin Al Ahmadi in the high jump. In the distance events, runner Youssef Idris finished sixth in the 1500m, while runner Mohanad Khamis finished seventh in the 3000m steeplechase. Major General Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, President of the Qatari and Asian federations and Vice President of the International Association of Athletics Federations, congratulated our national team on this new achievement, which he said confirms once again that the talent already present is beginning to achieve the desired ambitions and reach positive results, especially since attention to the new generation is a priority for a promising future. He conveyed his congratulations to our champion Sara Al Manai on the achievements she has made that befit the reputation of Qatari athletics, as well as to champions Moaz and Mohammed Al Amin for their efforts, and expressed hope that our promising team would continue its preparation as required in order to keep achieving positive results, especially as the federation views the new generation as its vision for participation in the next World Championships

For his part, Khalifa Abdulmalik, Director of National Teams and Executive Director of the Athletics Federation, expressed his happiness at the positive participation achieved in Algeria, which yielded 3 medals, two of them gold, despite all the natural conditions surrounding the championship, and hoped that our champions would continue their run of success in upcoming events

For his part, Ali Saleh, head of our team’s delegation, congratulated the champions crowned with medals in the Arab youth challenge in Algeria, praising the effort the champions gave throughout the championship, which saw difficult weather conditions that affected some, though everyone gave a good effort and deserves praise and appreciation, considering the results a strong boost for these young athletes as they represent our national teams internationally, and wishing success to the rest of the champions who were not as fortunate in the competitions. Saleh concluded his remarks by extending thanks and appreciation to the Qatar Athletics Federation family, headed by Major General Al Hamad, President of the Qatari and Asian Athletics Federations and Vice President of the International Federation, for their support, attention and encouragement of all the champions until they achieved these results and gains and raised Qatar’s flag high in various international forums. He also extended special thanks to the national teams’ staff, represented by teams director Khalifa Abdulmalik, Captain Khalid Al Marri and members of the technical and administrative staff and the rest of the team’s members for their valued efforts in the service of Qatari athletics
