Abdulhakeem Al Amri, head of our national athletics team’s delegation in China, expressed his happiness at Qatar’s team’s strong start, saying the four medals at the opening of the challenge reflect the great excellence of our champions at continental level, and that this was a good sign for a season full of achievements for Qatar’s athletics. Al Amri added that Qatar’s champions are at the start of their season, and that this success would give them a big boost towards reaching their best level this season, praising the continuous follow-up of Dahlan Al Hamad, the head of Qatar’s athletics programme.
Al Amri confirmed that Qatar’s team could have added another medal in the 400m had it not been for Femi’s injury, which prevented him from taking part in the 400m race, for which he had prepared well, but that what was achieved on the first day is considered a great success for Qatar’s athletics. He said that, as head of Qatar’s delegation in China, he hopes the team will complete its technical excellence at the championships by topping the men’s overall standings, especially as Qatar’s team is competing only in the men’s category, unlike most of the continent’s teams, which compete in both categories at the Asian Indoor Championships, noting that Qatar’s team is now leading the standings by a margin of one silver medal over Kuwait. The head of Qatar’s delegation hoped the team would continue to excel at the championships, especially as the challenge will see the participation of our Olympic and world champion Mutaz Barshim and his brother Muammar Barshim, alongside Musab Balla, Jamal Hairan, Abubaker Ali Kamal “Coco” and Al Garni.
